Reserve gTLD for region, not Amazon.com
23 May 2019 at 16:21:51 UTC

The Amazon is a huge region of South America that crosses several national borders, contains a diversity of human cultures, is home to 10% of known animal/plant species, and is the largest rainforest in the world. Its importance to the world community cannot be understated.

ICANN has a responsibility to shape the internet to best serve the world community. Reserving the gTLD .amazon for a corporation instead of the geographic region shows a perverse bias towards the wants of the wealthy over the needs of Earth's people. The consequences of such bias should be apparent than ever in our era of climate crisis.

Do not reserve the gTLD .amazon for Amazon.com, Inc.
